West Side Story - Lima Perú

West Side Story in Peru (2011) directed by Mateo Chiarella. The musical is based on Romeo and Juliet story by Shakespeare.  It’s a great musical adaptation of genre drama with the beautiful music of Leonard Bernstein.  Now in Peru since June 2nd to July 10th at the rebuild Municipal Theatre.

The play is about Tony and Maria the young guys of different gangs, he is American and she is from Puerto Rico; they met in a party and fell in love and  this cause a fight between the two groups of guys, Jets and Sharks.

The play is pretty good, the artists do it well, choreography, also with contemporary dances and the plot was interesting, it’s not common to talk about racism.  The music was very good, one of the best songs is “America”, but if the lyrics were in English, it will result better.

Go and see, West Side Story at the Municipal Theatre, is good option for do in the city, you will really enjoy it.
